Merry Christmas... And A Nigerian Terrorist???

All day yesterday, I felt guilty: I didn't come on my blog to say Merry Christmas to you wonderful folks.  For Christmas, I had planned on cooking some pasta and calling it a day.  But Aribaba (of Jaguda dot com) happened.  And that was how I ended up cooking another pot of efo soup.  He came with his friend, AK, and well, I hope I fed them well--- although I was unable to provide the fourteen virgins - seven for each - he wanted to serve the food.  I should have taken a picture of the pounded-yam that I ordered them to completely demolish before going home.  Better luck next time.

After they left, the day was pretty much normal, just passing by --- until I heard the breaking news: a terror attempt on U.S. airliner, Delta/Northwest by a Nigerian.  Nigerian?!  Terrorist?!  As in, the suicide kind?  As in, he was going to die in the process?  As in, he was a Nigerian attempted suicide-bomber?  Oh, but this doesn't fit the Nigerian's M.O.

  1. A typical Nigerian, even an extremist Muslim one, will not lay his/her life down for any cause.
  2. If a Nigerian would lay his life for a cause, it would be for the cause of money, and that happens when he/she sells his/her soul to the devil for wealth, agreeing to die in a specified number of years.
  3. The only terror Nigerians are good at - and I use the word, good, sparingly - is 419.

I have to say, I never really thought I would see the day that Nigeria and terrorism would be mentioned in the same sentence --- seriously. Up until yesterday, the only time I had heard Nigeria and terrorism mentioned in the same sentence was when jokes were made about why Nigerians cannot be terrorists. (Please see number 1, 2, and 3 above).

Twenty-three year old Umar Farouk Abdulmutallab has done us strong thing. I am tempted to start singing, na who born the maga?!  Apart from Nigeria, it seems like every other nation generally sees Nigerians as aggressive, arrogant, fraudulent, sons of you-know-what.  Now, they must begin to see us as aggressive, arrogant, fraudulent, terrorist sons of you-know-what.  Great.  That's just the way to rebrand Nigeria.  Oh, what will Dr. Dora Akunyili say?

I wish, hope, and pray deeply that Abdulmutallab turns out not to be a Nigerian.  I hope he's just an extremist who sneaked into Nigeria and managed to get our passport.  Still, Nigeria has been implicated.  He did board the plane from Lagos, Nigeria.  Speaking of Lagos, CNN ought to learn how to pronounce the word.  It's not Lo-gos, and it's not Lah-gos.  It's Lay-gos, darn it!  They can pronounce Shanghai and Beijing.  Lay-gos shouldn't be that difficult.  Seriously.

So, it's all over the news that Nigeria's airport security sucks.  Maybe this will get the Nigerian government to beef up security?  Okay, fine, you're right.  Who the heck am I kidding?  The thought of flying between States in Nigeria is scary enough; you have to constantly think of the well-being of the aircraft.  Now, we also have to worry about what lunatic they might have let slip by.  Great.

Thankfully, I have a solution: I'm flying in with a private jet!

what pisses me off is that the boy;s father informed several us security outfits and embassies telling them to pull his son's VISA cos he fears he has become radicalised and the us embassy refused.now something has happened and they are now calling nigeria here and there.they should go to hell abeg.

Verastic! You should come see my post on the matter. I was very angry about it, but I do agree with you. No Nigerian would erase their life, whether it be North or South. I don't know.. who knows times are changing.

Very stupid boy! They should check out his associares in London. I am sure there is more to the story.

Now they are blaming us, after getting a tip off from the boy's father. As if air travel is not difficult enough! We will be subject to a pat down now ( I shiver at the thought of that!) Bloody nuisance he is! I am with Leggy on this too. He stopped over in Amsterdam, so they should stop mentioning Lagos! Where did he get strapped? It's not like he was on a direct flight! make dem leave us abeg.

Hope you had a lovely xmas.

They are choosing to overlook the fact that he stopped over in Amsterdam, and the security checks there failed to pick up on his explosives. Instead, all the focus is on Naija security. Such a shame this has happened, as if getting a visa wasn't hard enough already.

Sad tho, to be honest.

You would think with all d disgrace Nigeria has been getting, the freaking yeye bombalistic 9ja govt would so something by now?
I mean d way some of these yankee journalists demean naija,...makes me wanna slap somebody Sometimes.

The whole thing aggravated me but now I am calm on it cos I guess life is full of surprises. This Sure was a huge surprise.

I wrote on it too. I guess writing on it was my way of subduing my anger.

Officials in Amsterdam should have checked everyone boarding the plane to Detroit. I have flown through Schipol airport many times and they interrogate the heck out of people there. It is not fair to have Lagos Airport take all the blame here. This guy could have picked up the "device" in Amsterdam for all we know.

What is the big deal the whole world is making about Mutallab???

HE WAS MERELY TRYING TO SMUGGLE KNOCKOUT TO HIS FRIENDS AND FAMILY IN AMERICA WHO HAVE NOT BEEN HOME IN A LONG TIME DUE TO THE RECESSION.

I'm sure it was Bisco sef.

*Joke*

O.... It's been a while since you last popped in at the den.

Aww you were with Aribaba?!?! Small world!!! Regarding the "terrorist" I dunno since when just a passport makes someone Nigerian. The boy has lives over 70% of his life outside Nigeria. so to me he isnt! "that is what I keep teeling myself to make me feel better..lol"

Abeg forget about him. Yes he is Nigerian and yes our rep is battered even further but it is what it is. Our leaders will not wake up and take the neccessary precautions to beef up our security, all you will hear now is some rat (not referring to anyone in particular, I respect my dear Dr Dora but sometimes sha) hollering that they should not disrespect Nigeria. The boy's actions are not a reflection of Northerners let alone Nigerians. All sides are to blame, dude was on a terrorist list, he flew from Lag and the security there is as good as null. O and there is not much Amsterdam could do, if he connected and did not have to go through security again then they are not to blame. All in all we thank God it failed and we pray anymore attempts will fail.
Merry Christmas Vera!!!
